First week coming to an end

We've reached Sunday, August 30, Lia's birthday, which is a very nice way to end our first week.  After a surprisingly pleasant flight, courtesy of ANA, we arrived in Tokyo very tired.  Our landlord and her mother, whose apartment this is, met us here, with ice cream, fruit and cold drinks.  After a full night's sleep, we began a whirlwind week of running errands on foot and on train.  Here are a few of the things we've done:
- registered as foreigners with the government
- signed up for national health insurance
- opened a bank account
- shopping: umbrellas, towels, groceries, school uniforms, laundry supplies, toaster oven, speakers
- visited the Fulbright offices for orientation
- met the kids' teachers at their school
And a few other fun things, which I'll let the kids write about separately. 
I hope that many of you will take the time to say "hi" and leave comments here for us to enjoy.  We're having a good time already, but of course we miss our friends and family badly.  Happily, Steve will be here to join us in less than 3 weeks for his first visit!
